Week 5 - Social Media Survey


Social media is the bringing together of groups of like-minded people with shared interests online to complete a myriad of tasks or achievements. Social media can be used for various tasks such as communicating and connecting, producing content for money / swag, news and current events coverage and updates, blog/vlogging as well as a myriad of other potential usages. The benefits of social media are endless, and its ability to share data, news, events, life stories as well as any topic of interest with shared friends, colleagues and strangers.

Results:
There were a total of 10 people who responded to the survey.

The first question queried which social media was most frequently used, with a resounding amount stating that Facebook (63.64%) was their preferred most frequented site for social media, followed by Instagram (18.18%), and then followed by both Twitter and Snapchat (both at 9.09%).

Question 2 queried which social media website people were more likely to avoid or dislike. The resounding results showed that people were more prone to avoid Twitter (50%), followed by LinkedIn (30%) and lastly Snapchat (20%)

The following question was regarding social media usage, with 70% stating that they are on social media less than 20 hours a week, and the 30% remaining using social media approximately 40 hours per week.

Question 4 queried participants about what they enjoyed most about social media, with a resounding majority using social media as a means of reaching others and chat with friends / colleagues (60%), with the next 20%  using social media to catch up with current events and news. After this one participant (10%) stated they use it for birthdays and events and the other participant (10%) using it for all of the above (videos of cats, puppies etc; ability to create groups and create your own network within a network (like inception); ability to get the name out there in the desired industry, as well as catching up with news and events and reach others and chat with friends and or colleagues).

The following question requested how much social media impacts your life. 20% stated that social media impacts you a large amount, and the majority (50%) stated that social media impacts their life quite a lot. and the remaining (30%) stated that social media impacts their life neither here nor there.

The final question asked was asking the age bracket, with the majority (80%) being between the age of 22-25, with 10% being between the age of 50-60 and the other 10% between the age of 18-22.
